Autoimmune conditions are the invisible epidemic of modern living. Chronic stress, nutrition, environmental aspects, and (unfortunately) genetic disposition all play a related role in autoimmune conditions. There are however, many tools which can make having an auto-immune or chronic health disorder more manageable.
Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are excellent tools to assist in managing symptoms of chronic health disorders, such as sleep, pain and other related symptoms. It will likely take time, commitment and discipline, along with regular treatment, to get benefits which are lasting, but this does not mean they are not possible.
Thyroid diseases, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, MS, Lupus, Graves disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other diseases of immune dysfunction all respond well to regular acupuncture treatment. Chinese Herbal medicine, acupuncture, gua sha (spoon scraping), cupping, traditional Chinese nutrition, and lifestyle advice all play a part together in bringing you back to wellness and health.
In the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, it is proposed that acupuncture can strengthen the human body to resist diseases by puncturing needles at specific acupuncture points. The characteristic that acupuncture enhances resistance is closely related with the immune system, which functions in defence, homeostasis (balance), and surveillance. More and more research has revealed that acupuncture can regulate immunity, for example, to enhance anti- cancer and anti stress immune function and exert anti-inflammation effects. This may be the basis of acupuncture in treatment of these conditions.
There is a growing body of research demonstrating the efficiency of traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of many of these conditions, as well as evidence of moderating inflammatory biomarkers of stress and inflammation.
In general, acupuncture is believed to stimulate the nervous system and cause the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. The resulting biochemical changes influence the body’s homeostatic mechanisms, thus promoting physical and emotional well-being.
If you are coming in for treatment of an auto-immune condition, please bring your most recent blood tests with you for analysis. There are many nutritional options we can assist with for your best return to health!
